Hurricane Irene

Not being able to sleep for the past few hours I decided to get up and do some work. Sometimes that is not a great idea since when I am exhausted I make mistakes. I was working on a new ad for a playbill for a local theater and realized that I was just making mistakes by the second so I decided it was better that I wait till I am more awake to do the ad. It is a catch 22 situation. I can't sleep so I would like to do work but I am so tired that I can't do the work efficiently which is not a good thing.

I am listening to the rain and the wind and all the noises outside my office window. We keeping losing cable and electricity intermediately and I am thrilled when they come back on. I do realize that we will probably lose electricity eventually and for how long who knows. The most important thing is that we are all safe and together. We prepared for the hurricane as much as possible. Many areas around us were told to evacuate but we were not. I should not complain since so many have lost so much already due to the hurricane. Let us all just be safe and let there be as little damage as possible. Be SAFE!

Hurricane Irene

Wishing everyone be safe during Hurricane Irene. We have loaded up on batteries and water. We have taken everything in that could be blown away. We have backed up computers and we have charged all of our electronics. We have bought a generator. We filled our gas tanks in our cars. We are going food shopping today picking up food and lots of ice. We are as prepared as we can be.

Be safe! We hope that there is little to no damage.

Happy Monday

As I look outside today it is a sunny day so far. The forecast for later is going to be gloomy but for right now it is sunny and bright. I am working from home today because my 6 year old son is sick and could not go to camp. I was sad for him since he is missing a fun day at camp but he is doing better and will be able to go to his last day of camp tomorrow.

While I am home I am working on fulfilling customer orders, working on the back end of the website and placing orders with vendors for new product. I am so excited for some of the new products that we are bringing in and can't wait to have it shown on our website.

Wishing everyone a happy Monday and a good week.

Poor Vendor

It's so frustrating when I speak to a vendor to find out half of the products that I ordered from the company at the New York Gift show are out of stock and not sure when and if they are coming in or they have decided to discontinue the stock of this item. My question to this vendor was; Why bother showing and spending all this money on a booth if your products are not available to the retailers? He answered me; We want our product available to the retailers but we just don't have the money to produce all the products. This did not make sense to me. So, unfortunately I told him to cancel my order. I don't like peace meal orders especially when I am only bringing in a limited amount of product from the vendor. Oh poor vendor I am not sure you are going to make it in the gift world.

Good Morning

Another rainy day here. Getting ready to head into the city to go to the New York Gift Fair. I have all my appointments set and everyone I am going to meet. Meeting a friend after the show which is a good thing. Meeting 2 friends during the show and going to walk the show with them also. It's fun to do the show with other people. You get different opinions of what you think will sell and what won't sell.

Website and NY Gift Show

Working hard today on the back end of our newly designed website. I can't wait till it is done and can go live. I was really hoping that it would have gone live by the end of August but it is not looking that way unfortunately.

So thrilled with our new logo. It's so clean and crisp looking. The website is going to have that type of look also. My 2 graphic artists are wonderful and a pleasure to work with.

Spent time today planning my next 2 days at the New York Gift Show@ Jacob Javits. Hoping to find new products and plan on visiting my vendors to see if they have anything new to offer. The show has been a little "stale" the past couple of years. I usually have been only finding one or two new items that I want to sell.

Had a wonderful conversation today with a client. She gave me some good ideas of what she is looking for so my plan tomorrow when I go to the show is to look for items that will fit her idea of planning her daughter's Bat Mitzvah and other daughter's Sweet 16.

I love to talk to my clients and listening to there ideas. I have wonderful clients and customers!
